Applications for the following position are invited from suitably qualified interested parties. However, permanent team members will be considered in the first instance thereafter external applicants will be considered.

DUTIES:
- Detailed design/improvement of components and sub-assemblies of medium complexity:
- Defining design requirements and specifications
- Generating and presenting design concepts and preliminary cost estimates
- Applying a systematic approach to evaluate and compare different design options and to select the appropriate option
- Generating and managing the generation of a design data pack (including technical specifications, design calculations, mathematical/numerical models, 3D CAD models, 2D manufacturing drawings, correspondence, bills of material, sign-off documentation and other supporting information)
- Performing design data pack sign-off activities in accordance with sign off procedures
- Technical support to other cross functional teams and internal or external customers, including:
- Clarifying design intent
- Determining and indicating sensitive areas of designs
- Assisting with root cause analysis and problem resolution processes
- Determination of system behaviour by engineering analysis and numerical simulation:
- Development of engineering models
- Development of numerical simulation models including idealizations & boundary conditions
- Results post processing and interpretation
- Durability predictions based on simulation and test results
- Creation of and participation in the execution of product verification/validation plans
- Design of tests, including instrumentation schemes and duty cycles
- Post processing of test data
- Interpretation of test data
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.Tech(Mech Eng), B.Eng(Mech), B.Sc(Eng) Mech or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years applicable post graduate experience (experience in the field of product development)
- Passion for and experience in product development
- Passion for vehicle engineering
- Ability to apply engineering principles to generate practical and cost-effective solutions
- Ability to conceptualize ideas based on design philosophies and project guidelines
- Ability to manage workload and time utilization
- Ability to organize, plan and execute medium scale projects
- Good understanding of engineering change & manufacturing control processes
- Working knowledge of solid modeling using Creo CAD software
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software or similar
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Valid Code EB driver's license
- Willingness to travel nationally and/or internationally if/when required
THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS:
- Passion for and experience in vehicle engineering
- Experience in product development for the earthmoving/material handling equipment sector
- Advanced engineering analysis skills
- Experience with the following numerical techniques:
- Linear and non-linear structural simulation
- Multi-body dynamics/structural co-simulation
- Familiarity with weld fatigue life estimation techniques
- A relevant post-graduate qualification
- Bell specific previous work experience
